Enfield Council's new Cabinet Member for Social Housing has visited workers carrying out housing improvement works.
The borough is embarking on a number of major improvement programmes at present. It is investing £40 million to improve its housing stock across the borough which will see improvements to lifts, windows, heating systems and other systems.
The Council has also agreed, subject to call in, to bring its repair service back in house and has launched the Housing MOT scheme as part of a major drive to make it faster and more responsive for the thousands of people who rely on it every year.
Consultations on new housing and homelessness strategies are due to start soon.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Housing, Cllr Gina Needs, joined workers carrying out improvement works on the thirteenth floor at Walbrook House in Edmonton and learn more about some of the challenges they face on a day to day basis.
She said: “We are committed to improving the quality of housing in the borough. Having a good quality, warm, welcoming home is vitally important because it gives people a safe place from where they can work towards achieving their goals and reach their potential.
“We are investing millions in improving our housing stock and putting in place mechanisms to ensure it is well maintained so that residents feel safe and secure in their homes.
”But to make sure that we are following the right approach we’ll be consulting on our future plans for housing to make sure they are fit for purposes and meet the needs of all of the people who live in the borough.”
