A man who illegally fly tipped a large fridge has been successfully prosecuted, following an investigation by Enfield Council’s Waste Enforcement team.
Council officers studied footage from mobile waste enforcement CCTV cameras, that showed Mr Gheorge Florea, 44, from Enfield (EN3), dumping a large white fridge from his white Citroen van in Kenninghall Road in Edmonton (N18).
Florea carried out the illegal activity in contravention of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, Section 33, on 14 January 2025.
On 9 July 2026, Florea pleaded guilty to the charge brought against him at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court in north London.
A judge ordered him to pay a fine of £500, a contribution to the Council’s costs of £500 and a victim surcharge of £200. Total: £1,200.
Cllr Maria Alexandrou, Cabinet Member for Environment at Enfield Council, said: “This case sends out a clear message to those who think they can dump their rubbish on Enfield’s streets.
“We will find you and we will prosecute you through the courts. There is no place for this antisocial and illegal behaviour in our borough.
“We offer residents a free bulky waste collection from their doorstep, and two facilities for the disposal of household waste are available at Barrowell Green and Edmonton Eco Park, so there is never any excuse to fly tip rubbish.”
The Council is pursuing its proposals for weekly bin collections to return which it believes would have a dramatic, long-term impact on Enfield.
