New Children’s Home Approved in Enfield

Enfield Council has approved plans to develop a new children’s home for young people with complex needs.

This will be the third children’s home the Council has develop. The aim is to help children stay close to their families, friends and schools while getting the care and support they need.

The new home was approved at a Cabinet meeting on 25 February. It will have space for meetings, a therapy room, a comfortable lounge and a safe outdoor garden where children can relax, play and learn.

Children living in the home will be cared for by well-trained staff. They will receive specialist support, including help with behaviour and therapy to support their mental health and wellbeing.

Councillor Abdul Abdullahi, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said: “I’m pleased to announce the development of new children’s home in Enfield is going ahead!

“As a Council, we want to build a strong foundation and ensure our long-term strategy reflects the growing demand for residential provision and overall reduce dependence on external providers.

“This new creation and our previous development of children’s homes in Bush Hill Park and Caterhatch Ward will provide increase in-borough support in a regulated, stable and therapeutic environment with secure outdoor garden space for recreation and educational activities.

“In the long term, it will also help the Council reduce costs and make significant savings.

“We’re committed to strengthening our local provision and creating a borough where children can thrive to their full potential.”

Once the new children’s home is ready, it will be registered with Ofsted.

The project will be funded by Department of Education grant and Enfield Council.
