The Best Start in Life offer supports parents and carers from pregnancy until a child's fifth birthday.
The early years, especially the first 1,001 days, are important for a child’s development. They can affect health, learning, emotional wellbeing and future life chances. This is also a time of change for families, and you or your child may need extra support.
Our Best Start in Life Local Plan (PDF, 5835.22 KB) explains how we will improve outcomes for babies, children and families from pregnancy to age 5. It sets out our aim to make sure every child, whatever their background, has the support they need to grow, learn and do well.
The plan supports the government’s Best Start in Life strategy and Good Level of Development (GLD) targets. It recognises that improving early outcomes needs coordinated action across health, education, childcare, family support and community services.
We developed this plan in response to the national Giving Every Child the Best Start in Life strategy, the rollout of Best Start Family Hubs, and alongside our Good Level of Development Plan (PDF, 1506.62 KB).
