Baby Loss Awareness Week statement from Cllr Chris Dey

Enfield Council is supporting national Baby Loss Awareness Week that takes place from 9 to 15 October 2026.

The week exists is to raise awareness of baby loss and for bereaved parents and their families to remember their babies who have died too soon.

Cllr Chris Dey, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services at Enfield Council, said: “Baby Loss Awareness Week exists to give anyone affected by baby loss a safe and supportive space to share their experiences and to feel they are not alone.

“We whole-heartedly support the week and give our thanks to the baby loss charities involved who support anyone affected by the death of a baby.

“It doesn’t just affect mothers, but also fathers, grandparents, brothers and sisters, friends, wider families and colleagues, and can have a devastating impact on people’s lives.

“The final day of Baby Loss Awareness Week ends with a Wave of Light on Thursday 15 October, which is globally recognised event where bereaved parents and families light a candle in remembrance for at least an hour from 7pm.

"In support of the Wave of Light, Enfield Civic Centre and Forty Hall will be lit up in pink and blue light on the evening of 15 October.

“I hope that residents affected by the death of a baby will seek the help and support they need.”
