Celebrating Enfield's exceptional young people at the annual Ignite Awards ceremony

The Ignite Awards, a youth-led celebration of young people’s achievements, has recognised 16 exceptional young people whose dedication, leadership and positive contributions are helping to make a real difference across Enfield.

The awards were presented on 20 August at Millfield Theatre by Young Leaders alongside Cllr Chris Dey, Cabinet Member for Children's Services to 16 inspirational young people, recognising their determination and passion to improve themselves and the local community. The Mayor of Enfield, Cllr Emma Supple also attended along with more than 250 guests.

A record-breaking number of young people were nominated for this year’s Ignite Awards, making it the largest number of nominations received to date. Forty-four young people were nominated across nine award categories, celebrating the achievements of exceptional young people in Enfield.

An outstanding example included Omari Green, recipient of the Future Leader Award, who has led awareness campaigns through his role as Enfield’s Young Mayor. He has supported youth engagement initiatives and championed the voices of young people, demonstrating leadership, determination and a strong commitment to building a better future for his peers.

The evening also celebrated the end of Enfield Council’s Summer Uni programme, showcasing some of the many free activities and courses young people participated in over the summer holiday.

Young people were able to show off the skills they learned through the Summer Uni programme, giving live performances and presentations including spoken word, music and film.

Cllr Chris Dey said: "I am always amazed by our talented youth and their passion to inspire positive changes around them.

"The Ignite Awards is not just any ceremony. It is a chance to recognise and appreciate these future leaders, who will no doubt go on to do incredible things in our communities, borough and country.

"Once again, congratulations to the winners and individuals who were nominated, as well as the young people who participated in Summer Uni programme.”

The Ignite Awards ceremony is Enfield Council's youth-led celebration of young people's achievements.  The awards were created four years ago by Enfield’s Young Leaders and have remained an annual event created by young people, for young people, with a new group of Young Leaders helping to organise and deliver the event each year.
