Enfield Council will be at the forefront of a new scheme to tackle knife crime and youth violence, as one of only four London boroughs selected to pilot the government’s Young Futures Programme.
The programme, launched by the Violence Reduction Unit (VRU), aims to support children and young people in Enfield who may be vulnerable to being drawn into crime.
By working in close partnership with the Home Office, the VRU and other key partners, Enfield Council will help ensure early intervention and partnership to improve opportunities for young people across the borough.
As part of the Young Futures Prevention Partnership Panel, Enfield Council will play a key role in sharing vital information between partners to better understand the needs of local children and families. The panel will also ensure that the voices of young people and their families are heard in decisions that affect them.
The Prevention Partnership Panel will commence at end of October 2025.
Councillor Abdul Abdullahi, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “Young people are the future of our country, and we want to be a borough that creates an environment that will help them thrive and reach their full potential.
“We’re already working very hard to ensure early preventative measures are in place to support vulnerable young people in Enfield. However, the Young Future Prevention Partnership Panel will help further boost and widen our reach to those who may currently be falling through the net.
“Knife crime, gangs and violence are not welcome in our community, so as a Council we’re committed to improve youth engagement in young people to create a safer borough.”
A VRU is a multi-agency partnership that uses a public health approach to prevent and reduce violence, especially among young people, by addressing its root causes through early intervention, community engagement, and data-driven strategies.
