The Museum of Enfield has launched an online platform, showcasing its collection for the public to view digitally for the first time.
The public can search and browse the online catalogue, and deep dive into the objects that tell powerful stories about Enfield. The collection also includes cultural and personal objects donated by residents, allowing the Museum to accurately represent the diverse communities that have shaped Enfield throughout history to the present day.
To celebrate, a launch event took place at Dugdale Arts Centre on 7 October. Attendees were invited to view the online catalogue and a selection of the objects from the collection in person and hear from volunteers about their experiences of cataloguing the collection.
Special guests included representative from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Councillor Chinelo Anyanwu, Cabinet Member for Culture and Inclusion, project participants, volunteers and key stakeholders such as RSA Trust and Whitewebbs Museum of Transport.
Councillor Anyanwu said “We’re so proud to launch the collection online for the world to view. Not only is this new system revolutionary for the museum, but also for the borough’s heritage as we’re able to protect it digitally.
“These objects are more than just things. They carry personal stories of how the borough of Enfield was shaped and created.
“I would like to thank our staff, volunteers and residents for working hard to make this collection possible. I highly recommend everyone to check out the collection online and see the stories and history for yourself!”.
Enfield Council was awarded funding from the National Heritage Lottery, as part of their Dynamic Collection programme, to launch this project.
