Every secondary school in the borough, including academies, will now benefit from direct access to school nurses, thanks to a partnership between Enfield Council’s 0-19 Service and the NHS.

Enfield’s School Nursing Service has made changes to the way they deliver services, to help improve the support available to pupils in the borough.

Delivered by the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, the enhanced service means that pupils can drop into lunchtime clinics without appointments, receive expert health advice and get the support they need when and where they need it most.

The Enfield School Nursing Service also provides training for school staff in the administration of medication for anaphylaxis, epilepsy and asthma.

Cabinet Member for Health & Social Care at Enfield Council, Cllr Alev Cazimoglu, said: “I am pleased the Council is leading on this great partnership with the NHS, to ensure every secondary school pupil in the borough has access to a nurse.

“It is vital children receive the help and support they need with their health and wellbeing at such a crucial time in their lives.

“This expanded universal offer to schools in Enfield will support children and young people in making healthy choices, taking responsibility for their health and having access to services they need at the earliest opportunity.”

The services available include phone-based information, advice and guidance for professionals, parents and young people; health care needs assessments for children referred to the service and advice and support with student care plans.

The School Nursing Service provides health care and supports children and young people aged between 5 and 19 to lead healthy lives by delivering a range of health promotion initiatives aimed at supporting children, young people and families to make healthy choices.

The Enfield 0-19 Service, encompassing both the Health Visiting and School Nursing Services, plays a vital role in supporting the health and wellbeing of children and young people across the borough.

The performance of the Enfield 0-19 Service has shown improvement, particularly within the Health Visiting Service, which has achieved or exceeded all its performance targets for 2024/25 based on London averages.

Recent improvements include better appointment readiness, expanded clinic locations, and stronger integration with community services.
