MJ shortlists Meridian Water for innovation in housing

Enfield Council's major regeneration project Meridian Water has been shortlisted for the Innovation in Housing category in the prestigious MJ Achievement Awards.

Meridian Water was selected for its innovative approach to housing delivery, which plans to deliver 10,000 homes and 6,000 jobs, as well as amenities, social infrastructure and green spaces over the course of the project.

The MJ was especially impressed with the Council's resilience and adaptability, taking action to reduce risks and keep delivering on its objectives, despite the difficult market conditions that are affecting developments across the country and with the project's aim for local people to be the principal beneficiaries.

Last year, Meridian Water celebrated the completion of its first 20 homes, all of which were council homes. This will be followed by another 70 affordable homes arriving this spring, and a total of 301 homes completed by the end of the year

Most recently, Enfield Council commenced the strategic infrastructure works, which will unlock further development in Meridian Water. These works include new roads, bridges, footpaths, cycle links, transport improvements, and two new parks, paving the way for thousands more homes.

Enfield Council’s Leader, Cllr Nesil Caliskan, expressed her delight in the project's recognition. She said: “The MJ shortlisting demonstrates that Meridian Water is more than a housing project, but a model of urban regeneration that tackles economic, environmental, and social issues.”

Meridian Water is located in the east of Enfield and is rapidly transforming redundant industrial land into exciting new neighbourhoods.
