Enfield Council statement on Israel and Gaza

building

The extreme humanitarian emergency in Gaza, following the 7 October attacks on Israel, has been shocking to observe.

Thousands have died, over a million in Gaza displaced from their homes, a population almost the size of inner-London is starving without proper humanitarian aid, and Hamas continues to hold hostages. The loss of life will be deeply distressing to many of our residents in Enfield.

Support for humanitarian appeals and links to donate to organisations helping those in need are listed on the Enfield Council website.

Our borough has a long and proud history of standing together, including residents of all faiths and none, when there is such human suffering. It is concerning that reports indicate that there has been a sharp increase in Antisemitism and Islamophobia in recent weeks across London.

Enfield Council denounces hate crime in the strongest terms. We must not allow these tragic events to divide our communities at home.

Enfield Council will continue to work with the Police and local communities to ensure residents are safe and the borough free from hate.
