My priorities as the new Leader of Enfield Council
Hello Enfield – I am delighted to introduce myself as the new Leader of the Council, working alongside my Cabinet colleagues and our wider team.
It is a real privilege to serve this borough, and I want to thank residents for the trust they have placed in us. We have been elected on a clear mandate to deliver the reliable services residents need and deserve, create a cleaner borough, and protect the green spaces that make Enfield such a great place to live.
As we deliver on these promises, we will keep residents informed and involved throughout, with good governance and complete transparency underpinning everything we do. Listening to residents will guide our approach throughout.
We know people want cleaner streets, safer neighbourhoods and services they can depend on, and that is exactly where our focus will be.
We are also taking early action on the issues residents care deeply about, including formally withdrawing Enfield from the government’s New Town process following my election as Leader of the Council. We have listened to you and are acting decisively. This decision reflects our commitment to protect the borough’s Green Belt and green spaces. We will still work with the government and partners to meet housing need in Enfield, but this will be through a “brownfield-first approach” and a focus on the delivery of high-quality family homes.
We want to support families and young people to thrive, strengthen our high streets and make it easier for residents to have their say. Improving how the Council communicates and responds is an important part of that. We are determined to be open, accountable and focused on the everyday concerns of local people, while also taking a long-term view of Enfield’s future.
Most importantly, we want to work in partnership with residents. Your ideas and feedback will help shape the borough in the months and years ahead, and I am proud to serve as your Leader at this important moment for Enfield.
