Tips on how to save energy

There are many people struggling to pay for the energy they use, particularly with higher than usual fuel prices. We want residents to stay safe and warm, so here are some ways to help lower energy costs.

Get energy advice

The cost of living crisis is putting many families under a lot of strain. Don’t be left in the cold.

Citizens Advice Enfield are working with The British Gas Energy Trust and Home Energy Efficiency Training to make sure residents are not left in the cold over the winter months. They are offering advice and energy saving tips. For those on pre-payment meters, fuel vouchers are available to help you get through the winter.

Shine is an energy advice service which can give advice over the phone and even arrange in person visits to help reduce what you use.

Energy Advice London is a new advice service for anyone living in London. It is funded by the Mayor of London and delivered by Energy Saving Trust. They aim to support Londoners through the cost-of-living crisis by providing free, impartial advice to help households save energy and water, access financial support, and manage energy and heating bills.

Get help to upgrade your home

If you own your home, you can get recommendations for improvements that could make your property cheaper to heat and keep warm. Visit GOV.UK - Find ways to save energy in your home.

The Mayor of London’s Warmer Homes programme provides free heating, insulation and ventilation improvements for low income Londoners who own their own homes or rent privately.

Help with energy bills

If you're struggling to pay for energy or think you may get into difficulty, contact your supplier through Ofgem.

Suppliers must work with you to agree on a payment plan you can afford under Ofgem rules. This includes reviewing a plan you have agreed before - get help with high energy bills.

Help to Heat

If you're worried about staying safe and warm, the Help to Heat Scheme could help you switch to gas central heating by offering a free gas connection. To qualify, you must be in receipt of certain income related benefits.
