Enfield has several ancient monuments protected by the statutory schedule of ancient monuments. These are sites and structures of considerable importance. If anyone plans work that might damage or alter them, they must receive Scheduled Monument Consent first. Undertaking work without this consent could lead to prosecution.
There are five Scheduled Ancient Monuments in Enfield:
- Site of Elsynge Hall, Forty Hall
- Earthworks at Old Park
- Moated site, Camlet Moat, Moat Wood
- Flash Lane Aqueduct
- Old Park Moated Lake
Enfield also has monuments of local interest such as the former Animal Pound, Bourne Hill and Southgate. Monuments of local interest don’t have the same legislative protection as scheduled ancient monuments.
