You can report a dead animal in a public area, and we will remove it as soon as possible. If you report it between 8am and 4pm on a working day, we will remove it within 4 hours. If you report it outside these hours, we will remove it the next working day.
If the animal is a dog or cat, we will check for a microchip and try to contact the owner. Regardless of whether there is a chip or not, we will keep the dog or cat for at least 2 weeks in case the owner contacts us with a description and location of the pet. We will check our records, and if we have collected the animal, the owner can arrange to collect it if they wish.
Due to storage limitations, after 2 weeks, all animals will be taken to a pet crematorium. Unfortunately, we cannot keep any ashes.
If the dead animal is on private property, you should contact the landowner or housing officer.
