Scheduled elections
The next scheduled election is:
- Mayor of London and London Assembly elections – Thursday 4 May 2028
UK Parliamentary general elections
UK Parliamentary general elections are usually held every 5 years. The last general election took place in July 2024, so the next one must take place by 15 August 2029.
A general election can be called earlier, so elections may take place at short notice.
Mayor of London and London Assembly elections
The last Mayor of London and London Assembly elections were held on Thursday 2 May 2024.
The next scheduled elections will take place on Thursday 4 May 2028.
Note: The elections planned for 7 May 2020 were postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the term was extended to 5 years and the elections were held in 2021 instead.
By-elections
Council ward by-elections
A council ward by-election is usually held when a councillor's seat becomes vacant during their 4-year term of office.
This can happen if a councillor:
- dies
- resigns
- is disqualified or is no longer qualified to hold office
