A major milestone has been reached in September 2026 with the successful completion and handover of the new standalone 4-classroom block. The first phases are now complete, including the new multi-use games area and amphitheatre.

The project to extend pupil capacity at Oaktree School started on site in summer 2025. The completed project will provide an extra 68 pupil places when it completes in 2027.
This project once completed in summer 2027will provide a range of improvements to the school facilities that will benefit pupils at Oaktree School. These include:
- a new multi-use games area (MUGA) for the school and wider community. This space will be used for activities including football, tennis, basketball and netball, providing opportunities for students and the community to stay active.
- new classroom blocks, including an amphitheatre for outdoor learning, landscaping, and new toilet and shower facilities
- a purpose-built extension providing a dedicated space for planning, preparation and assessment
- refurbishment of existing areas, including an extended small hall, improved canteen area, reprographics facilities and a secure entrance lobby
- a purpose-built medical block and welfare facilities, including accessible toilets, a hygiene room, medical room and sensory facilities
- a complete upgrade of the fire alarm system and redesigned parking areas
School improvements
As well as creating more pupil places, we are improving accessibility around the school. The new facilities will help students learn, develop social skills and make the most of every opportunity. These changes will help create a more inclusive school. We want to make sure every student feels valued and accommodated.
Benefits for the community
The new MUGA will provide the local community with a flexible space for sports and fun activities. It will help people of all ages stay active and connect with others.
Sustainability and net zero goals
The project includes energy-saving measures such as air source heat pumps and solar panels. We are adding green areas to support biodiversity and wildlife. We will also reuse rainwater to reduce water use and carbon emissions.

Safety awareness
The contractor, Hutton Construction Ltd, is working in partnership with the school to help students understand the importance of safety around a construction site. Sessions help students understand key construction safety principles. Students have also participated in a poster competition to help reinforce safety messages.
Work experience placements
Hutton Construction Ltd is working with Oaktree School to offer students work experience placements.
Students have had the opportunity to learn from experienced site staff, gain practical experience, develop new skills and explore the different roles within the construction industry. Placements are designed to provide a safe and supportive learning environment.
Timeline for development
In July 2024, Enfield Council's Planning Committee approved the planning application for the Oaktree School expansion project.
- February 2025: Start on site
- October 2025: MUGA handed over to the school
- August 2026: New standalone 4-classroom block handed over to the school
This project directly supports the Council’s ambitions set out in the Delivering for Enfield Council plan by increasing special education school places, supporting local families and strengthening communities.
