Working with Neglect

Understanding and working with the complexity of neglect:

  • The harm to children which arises from emotional abuse and neglect is interlinked. This course will explore what makes neglect complex and how to have conversations with parents and carers, helping them see how the effects of emotional abuse and neglect are cumulative, and then enabling them to make changes.
  • It will develop knowledge and understanding of the impact on the growing child and how to create change and improvements in the relationship between children and young people and their caregivers

Outcomes: By the end of the day participants will:

  • Have knowledge of the different types of neglect and explore thresholds of risk;
  • Gain clarity on what emotional abuse is and how to notice and evidence it;
  • Develop understanding  on the impact for children and young people;
  • Gain knowledge on tools that can be used to work with parents and caregivers to understand how neglect and emotional abuse are occurring.
