A child with a disability is first and foremost a child, and has the same human rights as any other child to be protected from harm. We must make sure we work together to ensure disabled children are kept safe and protected from harm - this is a basic human right.
If a child has a disability, this should not stop an enquiry where there are child protection concerns. Extra help may need to be allocated if an investigation of alleged abuse is to be meaningful.
If you're caring for, or supporting a disabled child by yourself, or working with a group that includes disabled children, remember that disabled children find it easier to communicate with the right support, usually with someone they know well. Do treat every child and young person with dignity and respect. Do be sure you can support and care for them safely, particularly if you take them out alone. Always ask for help, guidance and support.
