Despite stiff competition, Enfield Council triumphed at the Local Government Chronicle Awards (21 March) winning in the category for driving efficiency through technology.

Enfield Council was lauded for its ambition and level of innovation in devising new technological improvements to improve efficiency internally and to meet the needs of the local community.

A panel of judges, made up of senior and influential figures from the public sector, selected Enfield Council for the award which was presented at London’s Grosvenor House in an evening devoted to showcasing exceptional achievement at local authorities.

Enfield Council’s bid for the award focused on the significant challenges faced by Enfield in light of dramatic reductions in public sector funding while remaining cognisant of customer expectations.

The award is a result of teamwork throughout Enfield Council-from the assessment hub, children's services to adult social care-all working together to deliver the technological solutions and efficiencies for the ultimate benefit of the Council and its customers.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Finance & Efficiency, Cllr Dino Lemonides, said: “I would like to congratulate the whole team on this prestigious award. This recognises the hard work, energy and commitment of the ICT and Transformation teams to make significant improvements for our staff, the residents and the communities we serve.

“Our goal has been to redirect resources to front-line services – such as social care – and maintain a high level of service in an efficient, modern manner. Councils are facing fundamental challenges and to deal with this, Enfield Council has designed a blueprint to use digital technology to help eliminate unnecessary processes, automate and simplify ways of working and help make ambitious financial savings across the board.”

These ground-breaking plans have realised over £30 million of savings over an 18-month period. Engagement with the Council’s website has sky-rocketed with around 90,000 residents registered with an Enfield Connected account which allows customer engagement with Council services 24/7.
