Samba boys sashay through Enfield en-route to the FIFA World Cup

Some of the world’s best footballers descended on Enfield for a training camp during the lead up to the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The world’s most expensive footballer, Neymar, and team mates including Phillippe Coutinho, Marcelo, Gabriel Jesus, Roberto Firmino and Thiago Silva were put through their paces at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club’s state of the art Training Centre in Enfield as part of their pre-tournament preparation.

Representatives from Enfield Council visited the new Player’s Lodge to welcome the team to the area and promote the Enjoy Enfield campaign, which aims to promote the borough as a place to visit and encourage people to use its leisure and cultural facilities.

The team also presented Enfield Council Leader, Cllr Nesil Caliskan, with a shirt signed by the entire squad which will be auctioned to raise money for the Mayor of Enfield’s charity.

Enfield Council and the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation work together closely to provide high quality sports provision in the borough’s schools.

The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation provided more than 3,000 hours of football based PE sessions across primary schools in the borough between September 2017 and June 2018, as well as a full time weekly mentoring programme and a new Outdoor and Adventurous
Activities PE curriculum pilot programme.

The work forms part of a Section 106 partnership launched in 2010 by Enfield Council, the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority and Tottenham Hotspur. The club has made a £2.3 million commitment to community sport and physical activity in the borough over a 10 year
period.
