Live, shop, eat and play local

With the easing of some restrictions (from 12 April 2021), residents and those who work and study in Enfield are being asked to support their local businesses while continuing to observe safety precautions.

Most businesses selling non-essential items, such as clothes shops, have been able to welcome back customers as well as hairdressers, barbers, leisure centres and gyms. Restaurants, pubs and cafes can host customers outdoors at tables, and you can meet with up to six people or one other household outside too.

To show your support for local businesses why not download and display our Live Shop Eat and Play Local campaign poster. You can also watch our latest animation on YouTube.

If you have visited a business that has particularly impressed you and you'd like to recommend it, or if you run a business and would like to tell us what you are doing in your community, use the hashtag #LiveLocalEnfield on social media. We will like and share as many of these posts as possible.

By shopping on your high street, you will be supporting a local supply chain from producers to employees. National data show that for every £1 spent with a local, independent business, between 50p and 70p circulates back into the local economy.

While out and about, you should continue to observe the hands, face, space and fresh air recommendations. This means washing hands often and thoroughly for around 20 seconds, wearing a face covering when inside a public space or where it is difficult to socially distance and keeping a distance of around two metres where possible from people not in your household or bubble.

In addition, you should look out for QR code posters that should be displayed by some businesses. Using the NHS COVID-19 mobile app, you can scan the QR code. This will mean NHS Test and Trace will be able to contact customers with public health advice should there be a COVID-19 outbreak. You may also notice COVID marshals in town centres and parks who will help to advise and support members of the public and businesses on following social distancing rules and other safety measures.

Information about staying safe, getting tested and contact tracing can all be found at www.enfield.gov.uk/covid19. In addition, Enfield Council’s newsletters will help you keep up to date with all the latest information about enjoying Enfield safely. Sign up at www.enfield.gov.uk/enewsletters.

This work is supported by the Reopening High Streets Safely Fund, established through a grant from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
