A wellbeing hub, which will help guide people to adopt a healthier lifestyle, has been officially opened in Enfield.
The project at 59 Church Street will house members of Enfield Council’s Public Health Team helping them to work directly with the community, referring residents to services which can help support healthier living.
Promoting healthier lifestyles, such as stopping smoking, eating more healthily and increasing levels of physical activity is important in helping prevent problems like obesity and chronic conditions such as diabetes or heart disease.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health, Cllr Yasemin Brett, said: “Adopting a healthier lifestyle has a huge number of benefits. It has been scientifically proven that taking exercise and eating more healthily can reduce your risk of developing a number of diseases and also mean you remain active for longer as you get older.
“It is marvellous that Enfield Council is proactively working to help residents living healthier lives by putting vital services where they are most likely to be accessed and I hope that as many people as possible take advantage of the excellent advice that will be available at this facility.”
The centre, which is open on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays between 10am and 3pm will house Health Trainers – who will guide people who want to change their habits and behaviours to obtain a healthier lifestyle.
The Health Trainer Service is free and confidential for people over the age of 18 and is based at medical establishments and community centres. The Hub will also house Health Champions who are community based volunteers.
