A programme providing training and work placements for young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities has been awarded a ‘good’ rating by Ofsted inspectors.
The report by Ofsted (the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills) highlighted the highly effective support from Enfield Council and the strong relationships forged with local employers and West Lea School to provide the successful scheme.
The programme was rated ‘good’ in five key areas: effectiveness of leadership and management; quality of teaching, learning and assessment; personal development, behaviour and welfare; outcome for learners; and provision for learners with high needs.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Achilleas Georgiou, said: “We are absolutely committed to the development of and ongoing support for this internship programme. We are extremely proud of this rating by Ofsted. I would like to congratulate the Council’s leaders, managers and partners – particularly West Lea School - for providing high-quality training that for many of the young adults leads to paid employment. But we will not rest on our laurels. We will continue to monitor and make improvements to the scheme to ensure the best possible outcomes for all participants.”
The programme, which started in September 2017 in a partnership with West Lea School, currently has 12 learners taking part. They spend four days in the workplace and one day in classroom based learning at a local library. Learners work in a range of placements in tune with their career aspirations. Examples include horticulture, early-years settings and retail outlets.
