Get fit for free in Pymmes Park

Free fitness classes have been launched in Edmonton's Pymmes Park in collaboration with Our Parks, a new fitness concept which harnesses the power of technology and sport.

The initiative, which is the brainchild of entrepreneur Born Barikor, is sponsored by Sport England and aims to make outdoor classes accessible, enjoyable and most importantly, at no cost to users.

The Pymmes Park classes take place at 10am every Saturday and are delivered to over 16s by fully qualified and registered coaches. To get involved, Enfield residents should join at Ourparks.org.uk. Once registered, you can choose and book your place in the class - just turn up and tone up!

The Our Parks website allows users to view classes in their area which are colour-coded to indicate the level of intensity. The website has a simple booking system. Site users can interact with their fellow classmates and coaches and subscribers can incorporate tools such as BMI and mood calculators which are designed to incentivise users.

The aim of Our Parks is to ensure that easy access to exercise is available to all. With their bespoke technology, they can enable residents to book and register classes and communicate with other park users to provide a fitter and more socially active community.

Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Public Health, Cllr Yasemin Brett, said: 'Enfield Council is constantly trying to find ways to encourage healthy lifestyle changes. By working with various leisure partners we want to ensure a wide range of activities are available to suit every level of fitness. Our relationship with Our Parks is another string to our bow, making it easier to bring physical activities to the people of Enfield in our wonderful parks."

Enfield has an extensive programme of activities in parks. In addition, many of the borough's parks have ''green gyms', outdoor equipment to enhance your fitness regime. These are also free to use.
