Enfield scoops gongs at Urban Food Awards

The brains behind Enfield Council's Sugar Smart Campaign has won a prestigious award.

Enfield Council’s Health in All Policies Strategist,  Ailbhe Bhreathnach, won a Woman in Food Award at this year’s ethically focused award ceremony which chose to shine the spotlight on 30 women who are pushing the boundaries of the capital’s food industry. She was the only winner from a London Council.

She received her award for her hard work in changing good food in the public sector, which included setting up and running the Sugar Smart Campaign in Enfield and promoting healthy eating in Enfield

For the first time this year, the ceremony – a Mayor of London and London Food Link Scheme designed to celebrate the enterprises, initiatives and organisations promoting good food across the capital -  presented special awards recognising women doing great things for food in London in the fields of education, community, health, urban food growing, campaigning and policy.

Ms Bhreathnach, said: ““I feel honoured to have won this award alongside such inspirational women, including Emma Lundie of the Enfield Food Forum, who are working hard to promote good, sustainable food, while transforming the food culture and environment in London.”

Enfield Council’s Leader, Cllr Nesil Caliskan, said: “We’re committed to promote healthy lifestyles and our public health team does a great job to educate residents about how to live a healthier lifestyle.

“I’m delighted Ailbhe has won a prestigious Woman in Food Award, our Sugar Smart Campaign is enormously important in tackling childhood obesity and encouraging healthier eating and she deserves enormous credit for her hard work in helping to deliver the project.

As well as Ms Bhreathnach, Enfield was very much in the spotlight at the awards ceremony with Forty Hall Vineyard being nominated for both the Women in Food category and the Good Food on Prescription category for their ecotherapy project.

Emma Lundie from The Food Gatherer was also nominated and awarded a Women in Food award for her work promoting good sustainable food and leading the Enfield Food Forum.
