Enfield residents are being encouraged to check if they are registered to vote, and ensure they are aware of the ID they need to produce when voting at polling stations ahead of the Local Election.
On Thursday 7 May, eligible residents will be able to vote in the election but must register in advance if they are not already included on the borough’s electoral register.
Registration takes approximately five minutes and can be made online at the government’s website GOV.UK
The deadline to register to vote is Monday 20 April 2026 at 11.59pm.
Once registration is complete, the resident will receive confirmation from the council’s Electoral Services team they have been added to the electoral register and are entitled to vote.
Votes can be cast in person at a polling station, by post or the voter can appoint a trusted individual to vote on their behalf through a proxy vote. The deadline to apply for a proxy is Tuesday 28 April.
Voting by post is the easiest way to vote as photo ID is not required. The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday 21 April 2026, but residents must have registered to vote before requesting a postal vote.
Perry Scott, Chief Executive and Returning Officer at Enfield Council, said: “We want to ensure as many eligible residents are able to vote either in person or by post, so I would advise those who have moved into the borough recently or who are not currently on the electoral register to act now, and ensure their voice is heard at the ballot box.
“The process has never been simpler as all resources are available online. Our Electoral Services team are also available to answer any questions on the phone or by email.
“If you vote at your local polling station in person, it is essential to produce valid photo ID. I would advise you to familiarise yourself with the accepted types of ID sooner rather than later.”
The law requires every resident casting their vote at a polling station, including a proxy voter, to present physical photo identification.
A picture or copy of ID on a mobile phone or tablet device will not be accepted unless it an approved digital form of identification which is either a Veterans’ card or evisa.
If residents do not have valid photo ID, a free Voter Authority Certificate can be obtained from the council’s Electoral Services team. The deadline to apply is 5pm on Tuesday 28 April 2026.
