Building a brighter future with Next Steps

Year 11 students were welcomed to the fourth annual Next Steps event to explore exciting post-16 education, training and apprenticeship opportunities.

The aim of the event is to help young people discover the many pathways available to build a brighter future, after the age of 16.

Held on 11 February at Dugdale Arts Centre, the students were able to network with representatives from colleges, connect with training providers and professionals from Enfield Council through interactive panel discussions.

Councillor Abdul Abdullahi, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: "Next Steps is a great event for our young people. It is an opportunity to boost our students’ confidence, raise aspiration and help provide clear pathways for their future endeavours.

“We want Next Steps to be the day that students decide to continue their post-16 journey and create a personal plan for their ongoing journey - either through education, training or employment.

“Thanks to our partners and our shared values to nurture young people, we were able to offer hands-on sessions to support students.”

Capel Manor College and Capital City College and First Rung (a local training provider) were all at the event to offer help and guidance.

A professional development company BRUILT delivered an inspiring workshop on Entrepreneurship, and Alex Zarifeh from ATLP Futures Readiness delivered a talk on artificial intelligence. Staff from Enfield’s Human Resource and Housing Regeneration teams shared their career story with students highlighting the importance of skills and qualifications.

Hosted by the Participation and Inclusion team at Enfield Council, and as part of its early intervention strategy, Next Steps invited 70 year 11 students from secondary schools in Enfield who may need extra guidance and motivation to help map out their career journeys.
