Enfield Council is supporting White Ribbon Day (25 November) and the following ’16 Days of Action.’

Today is the last day of the 16 and a conference was held in Enfield with speakers from local community groups, police, NHS and Enfield Youth Council.

Cllr Gina Needs, Cabinet Member for Community Cohesion and Enforcement at Enfield Council, said: “Good morning, everyone.

“I’m sorry that I am unable to be there in person to deliver this myself, as it will be my last one as Cabinet member.

“Before we begin, I would like to say a massive thank you to my team who have put this event together.

“I’d also like to thank all of you who are here - especially to our guest speakers who agreed to be a part of this day.

“We are all here today for White Ribbon Day - a day that calls on each of us to take a stand against violence and inequality.

“The theme this year, ‘We Speak Up,’ reminds us that silence is never an option when lives and dignity are at stake.

“I want to acknowledge the survivors of domestic and family violence - their strength and resilience inspire us.

“I also recognise the tireless work of advocates, community leaders, and organisations who fight every day to create safer spaces for all.

“Speaking up is more than words - it’s action. It means challenging harmful attitudes, calling out disrespect, and supporting those who need help.

“It means creating a culture where equality and respect are not ideals, but everyday realities.

“Violence against women and girls is not just a private issue - it is a community issue.

“Every statistic represents a life, a family, a future disrupted. And every time we choose silence, we allow that cycle to continue.

“So today, I ask each of you:

  • Speak up when you see disrespect
  • Speak up when someone needs support
  • Speak up to educate and empower the next generation.

“Together, our voices can break the silence, challenge the norms, and build a society where everyone feels safe and valued.

“White Ribbon Day is not just one day - it is a commitment.

“Let us carry this message forward, every day, in every conversation, and in every action.

“Because when We Speak Up, we create change. Thank you.”
