Residents and local businesses are invited to a community celebration to mark the progress of the Shaping Edmonton programme, a commitment to imrpoving Edmonton, providing greater opportunities to young people, and creating safer and cleaner streets.
The Shaping Edmonton Community Event will take place on 30 October at Fore Street Living Room Library and Leeds Street and will feature family-friendly workshops for younger people during the half-term school break, a pop-up market, cultural performances and opportunities to learn more about the exciting projects already underway.
Over the past year, we’ve worked closely with residents, schools and community groups to achieve real improvements in the area. Our work reflects the priorities of the people who live and work in Edmonton. The community event is part of a wider programme funded by £11.9 million from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, and delivered in partnership with Enfield Council, Greater London Authority, Transport for London and the Metropolitan Police.
Notable achievements include:
- Playground works: A brand-new playground has been installed on the Joyce & Snell’s Park estate, as part of the wider regeneration in the area. The play area, alongside the MUGA and St John and St James Primary School, offers a safe and vibrant space for children in and around the estate.
- Plans to improve Raynham Doorstep Green: A transformation of this green space, co-designed with local children and families, featuring new play equipment, accessible seating, outdoor exercise areas and a proposed outdoor classroom in partnership with Raynham Primary School.
- Fore Street Improvements: Improvements to the high street making the area more vibrant, safe and thriving.
- Community Room at the Living Room Library: A hub area within the library to keep the community updated on progress on projects within Edmonton and an opportunity to meet council officers spearheading individual projects.
Cllr Sabri Ozaydin, Cabinet Member for Climate Action and Placemaking, said: “We are committed to improving Edmonton, laying the foundation for a flourishing, inclusive, and stronger community. By creating new jobs, improving air quality, and supporting our local businesses, we are building a future for Edmonton where everyone can thrive.”
Residents are encouraged to attend, share their ideas and be part of shaping the future of Edmonton. Free refreshments will be available. All ages are welcome.
