New stop and search education campaign launched for young people in Enfield

Enfield Council’s Youth Development Service has launched a new online resource to help young people in the borough understand their rights when stopped and searched by the police.

The campaign has been created in partnership with the Council, Young Leaders, Young Consultants and local police through the BCU Safer Schools Lead. The campaign was launched on 19 June outside Ponders End Youth Club.

The Enfield Youth Bus acted as a hub for the event, where outreach workers engaged with local young people, sharing information, screening a newly developed animation and distributing QR-coded cards that link directly to the new Stop and Search web page.

The campaign is part of Enfield’s wider Youth Diversion Support programme designed to educate young people aged 13 to 18 years about their rights, signpost young people to positive youth activities, promote safer interactions, and provide support on how to make a complaint if necessary. It also aims to support early intervention and preventative education in line with the borough’s Youth Justice Plan.

As well as the online resource, the campaign includes a youth-designed animated video showing examples of good and poor stop and search practice and interactive workshops for schools and youth settings.

Cllr Abdul Abdullahi, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “We want every young person in Enfield to feel informed, safe, and supported. This new Stop and Search resource empowers young people to know their rights and access help when they need it. It’s also a powerful example of youth-led work in action. I’d like to thank everyone involved for their work on this important initiative.”

The programme reflects the Council’s ongoing commitment to listening to young people and addressing key issues affecting their safety and wellbeing. The resource is now live and will initially be promoted across schools, youth clubs and outreach networks in the borough.
