Palmers Green Library will officially open Enfield’s first Tool Library this summer, providing the community with access to a wide range of household and garden tools.
Residents can rent fully functioning items they may not typically have, such as drills, sanders and more, for a short period of time and at a very low cost through a membership.
The Tool Library aims to promote the following message: we should fix items rather than throwing them away, contributing to the borough’s recycling targets in line with our Climate Action Plan.
Additionally, we hope this scheme will provide households with an affordable way to borrow DIY tools, rather than spending money on items they may only need once or twice a year.
Enfield Council is currently recruiting volunteers to help with the day-to-day operations and seeking donations for unwanted DIY tools to help build a strong Tool Library.
Volunteers can get involved in a range of tasks, including managing the tool database and quality checking the tools. There are no requirements to sign up as a volunteer. If interested, fill in this form.
Cllr Sabri Ozaydin, Cabinet Member for Environment and Placemaking, said: “We’re actively coming up with new ways of tackling cost of living challenges and looking at ways to improve recycling rates. This is an exciting partnership with the Forest Recycling Project and we’re really looking forward to the launch of our first Tool Library here in Palmers Green Library.
“We’re heading towards building a stronger sharing community and reducing the harmful impact of over-consumption.
“Even if it’s a few hours each month, it would be great to see residents volunteer at the Tool Library. Not only will it help you gain new skills, but you’ll be able to connect with your neighbours and the community close to you.”
The Tool Library is proposed to open one day a week, with the possibility of extending the hours as demand grows. It will launch this Summer.
Enfield Council is committed to promoting sustainability by reducing waste and creating a stronger borough.
