Armed Forces Day – A statement from Cllr Gina Needs

Cllr Needs

A statement from Cllr Gina Needs, Cabinet Member for Community Cohesion and Enforcement at Enfield Council:

“The annual and national Armed Forces Day is on the horizon, and as ever, it’s important to recognise and celebrate the wonderful service provided by our regular and reservist soldiers, sailors, airmen and women and marines, both past and present.

“For Armed Forces Day, I would like to invite you, and your friends and family to join me in showing your support for all those in the Armed Forces community, from veterans to cadets and those currently serving troops.

“In Enfield, we have been working with The Enfield Veterans’ Combined Services Ceremonial Committee (EVCSCC) of the Enfield Branch of the Royal British Legion, to organise the national commemoration of Armed Forces Day in Enfield Town.

“Armed Forces Day will be commemorated nationally on Saturday 28 June, but our local event to honour those who keep us safe, will be held on Sunday 29 June which is the last day of Armed Forces Week. Everyone is welcome to attend to pay their respects.

“Our parade and event will proudly show our support for UK and Commonwealth servicemen and servicewomen who continue to serve in operations to preserve our freedoms.

“Armed Forces Day is important as it is a chance for us all to show our support for the Armed Forces community not only in Enfield but across the UK. We owe so much to our uniform organisations.

“I would also like to pay tribute to the friends and families of our Armed Forces who couldn’t do their job without their incredible support.

“Let us also not forget Reserves Day on 25 June, which provides an opportunity to recognise our Reserve Forces.”
