Celebrating one year of exceptional care at Reardon Court

residents and councillors cut a large cake

A celebration to mark the one-year anniversary of Reardon Court, Enfield Council’s extra care housing scheme took place last week to highlight the achievements of the service since opening and the positive impact it continues to make in the lives of older residents.

Enfield Council joined residents and staff at the celebratory event at Reardon Court which provides 70 modern one and two-bedroom flats for rent, with access to 24/7 on-site care.

The scheme also has communal facilities, including a courtyard lounge and attractive gardens, supporting social connection and independent living. Reardon Court offers a fully inclusive and disability conscious design, prioritising residents’ wellbeing. It is located in Highfield Ward, N21.

Cllr Alev Cazimoglu, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said: "Reardon Court is more than just housing – it’s a community that promotes dignity, independence and high-quality care. It has quickly become a vital part of Enfield’s adult social care offer. This scheme demonstrates how Enfield is leading the way in supporting our older residents to live well, for longer."

Cllr Ayten Guzel, Cabinet Member for Housing, added: “This award-winning development led by the Council Housing team shows what’s possible when we invest in people and places. We’re not only meeting the housing needs of older residents, but creating environments that are welcoming, inclusive, and empowering. For some people this project is an alternative option to residential care. For others, it is an opportunity to down-size to an accessible environment which is better suited to meeting their housing and care requirements. This Council is investing £1 billion in more, sustainable, and better homes, for a wide range of needs and we are incredibly proud of what we have achieved here at Reardon Court.”

In a recent Care Quality Commission report, where Enfield’s adult social care provision was rated ‘Good’ the regulator noted the provision at Reardon Court. The report said the Council’s investment in in-house services such as the Reardon Court extra care scheme was evidence that the local authority is responding to local needs and supporting people to live independently. This model will inform future commissioning. Read the CQC Report.

Enfield Council owns and manages Reardon Court, while on-site care is commissioned to Chosen Care to provide personalised support to tenants who need it. This project has been supported with funding from the Mayor of London.

The scheme was developed in response to the borough’s growing and aging population. In 2022/23, more than 4,775 Enfield residents accessed long-term adult social care support, with a further 465 supported short term. In 2023/24, adult social care accounted for 18% of the local authority’s budget.
