Remembrance Sunday services and parades confirmed

Residents are being invited to parades and memorial services in the borough to mark Remembrance Sunday on 13 November.

The events in Enfield Town, Edmonton Green and Southgate will commemorate the sacrifices of those who lost their lives in the two World Wars and more recent world conflicts.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety & Cohesion, Cllr Gina Needs, said: “Remembrance Sunday honours those who have made and continue to make the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

“I’d like to invite all residents to join us at the services and wreath laying in Edmonton Green, Enfield Town and Southgate, to welcome the Royal British Legion, our soldiers, young and old who will be remembering those who have lost their lives on this important Day of Remembrance.”

Three Remembrance Sunday parades and services will be held in the borough:

Edmonton Green - Edmonton Green War Memorial, N9.

9.30am - Assemble at the car park, St Martin’s Road, Edmonton, N9 0SN.

10.35am - Parade leaves the car park. Left out of the car park, along Monmouth Road, onto the Hertford Road, along the front of the bus terminal (The Green) to the Cenotaph (parade attendees to file onto the steps, public to gather on surrounding pavements).

10.45am - Parade assembles at Edmonton Green Cenotaph.

10.45am to 11am - Memorial Service.

11am to 11.02am - Two-Minute Silence.

11.02am to 11.20am - Memorial Service.

11.20am - Parade leaves the memorial, turns right past the Mayor of Enfield, Cllr Doris Jiagge, and musters at Balham Road.

11.30am - Close – Parade falls out and disperses.

Enfield Town - Chase Side/Windmill Hill War Memorial, EN2.

2.30pm - All contingents to muster at the Enfield War Memorial, Windmill Hill at the junction Chase Side.

2.45pm - Parade briefing for contingent commanders and leaders.

3pm - A Service of Remembrance where wreaths will be laid, led by Mrs Ann Cable MBE, the Representative Deputy Lieutenant for Enfield, followed by other dignitaries and individuals.

3.30pm - Participants will disperse from the Memorial and form up in Windmill Hill and march through the town centre to the Civic Centre.

4pm - The parade will be dismissed from the Civic Centre.

Southgate - St Andrew’s Church, 184 Chase Side, Southgate, N14 5HN.

10am - Attendees gather at St Andrew’s Church.

10.45am - Act of Remembrance including wreath laying.

11.15am - Service closes and then onto Southgate Royal British Legion for further prayers and wreath laying.
