Details

The Council’s Youth Service works together with sports, leisure, youth and community organisations and education settings to deliver activities and support for young people. Together, we call this our local Youth Offer, and your views will help us shape what this looks like in the borough.

This questionnaire will also ask about our youth centres and proposed changes. We currently have five youth centres and a mobile youth bus in the borough. However, we recognise that not all young people visit our centres, so we want to improve how we connect with young people in different places.

Our new plan includes a mix of youth centres and youth activities in other places like schools, on the streets and using our mobile youth bus. We believe that meeting young people in different ways will help our youth workers be more visible, accessible and flexible.

Here’s what we’re proposing:

  1. Continue to run youth activities from three Youth Centres: Ponders End, Craig Park, and Bell Lane
  2. Stop hosting activities at Croyland and Allan Pullinger Youth Centre sites and engage with young people differently through:
    1. - The use of 'outreach' to connect with young people in the community and to share information about what's available.
    2. - The use of 'detached' youth work and the mobile youth bus to bring youth activities to young people where they are. This might include places such as on the street, estates, schools, colleges, community halls, parks, and leisure centres.

Like all local councils in England, we need to find ways to save money, while still giving you the activities and support you need. The proposed changes to activities at Croyland and Allan Pullinger Youth Centres, can help us to achieve this.

We want to make sure young people have a say in the future Youth Offer and our youth centres, so we can provide this in a way that works for them. We would also like to hear from parents and carers about the changes we are proposing to make and youth activities and services in the borough.
