Buildings in on the local heritage list

Details

We asked for your views on the review of our Local Heritage List, and we would love to hear from you.

Local Heritage Lists are an essential tool that provides a consistent and accountable method for identifying local heritage assets in collaboration with the community. By including an asset on this list, its significance is acknowledged, and it becomes an important consideration for the local planning authority when evaluating planning applications that may impact the heritage asset or its setting.

In 2022/23, Enfield Council, in collaboration with the Enfield Society, a volunteer civic society, undertook a comprehensive review of the 2018 Local Heritage List. Volunteers from the Enfield Society and the local community played a vital role in surveying the Borough to reassess the 2018 entries and identify potential new candidates for inclusion in Enfield’s Local Heritage List 2024.

The final decision on whether to include an asset in the Local Heritage List was made by Enfield Council, guided by the recommendations of a Review Panel. This panel included Planning and Heritage Officers from Enfield Council, members of the Enfield Society, other local conservation bodies, and a representative from Historic England.
