Public Spaces Protection Orders

We asked you to share your views with us on our proposals to address various anti-social behaviours through a range of proposed Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs).  

Details

The power to make Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) was introduced under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. PSPOs are designed to stop individuals or groups of people committing anti-social behaviour in a public space.

The local authority can make a PSPO to prohibit or restrict activities that has, or will have, a detrimental effect on the quality of life of those in the locality, is persistent or continuing in nature and unreasonable.

A number of PSPOs were introduced on 15 January 2018 for a duration of three years to address a range of anti-social behaviours that had been reported to, and raised by, the Police and various Council departments.

The anti-social behaviours  covered by these PSPOs continue to cause detriment to the quality of life of residents. It was therefore proposed PSPOs are introduced again for a further period of three years.

Schedules 1, 2 and 3 present the lists of parks and open spaces to which the various proposed dog controls would apply.

Who could participate

Those who live, study or work in the borough, as well as visitors, local organisations (for example, Third Sector organisations) and businesses.
