What bins or sacks I should have
The standard rubbish bins most residents will have are:
Bin | Collected |
---|---|
140-litre grey/black lidded rubbish bin | Collected every 2 weeks |
240-litre blue recycling bin | Collected every 2 weeks |
23-litre brown food recycling bin | Collected every week |
(Optional paid for) 140 or 240-litre green garden waste bin | Collected every 2 weeks |
Properties without bins
If you live in a flat or estate, you may have shared rubbish and recycling bins or sacks.
Properties with no front space are given grey rubbish and blue recycling sacks.
You can find more information on our dedicated pages for black, blue, brown, green, and shared communal bins.
Request replacement bins or sacks
You can request a free replacement bin if your bin has been damaged, lost or stolen.
If you get rubbish or recycling sacks, these are automatically delivered twice per year.
Request new or replacement sacks
Upgrading your bins
You can request a larger blue lidded recycling bin, but please make sure you have enough space to store this size bin. You should always try to reduce your waste first, by shopping smarter and avoiding unnecessary packaging. You should also squash items where possible to make the most of the room in your bin. Neatly folded cardboard boxes can be placed next to your recycling bin on collection day.
You can also register an interest in a larger rubbish bin.
Stolen or damaged bins
It is your responsibility to prevent your bins from being stolen. Here are a few ways you can keep your bins safe:
- Label your bin
- Do not put your bin out the night before
- Bring your bin in as soon as possible after collection (your neighbour may be able to help)
Bins for newly built homes
Bins for newly built homes or properties must be paid for. We will only deliver bins to properties that have previously had bins. If you need to request bins for a new build home or development, please contact us.
Delivering your new bins
We will deliver your bins within 10 working days. While you are waiting for your bin, you should store your rubbish and recycling, or take it to Barrowell Green Recycling Centre.
Important note - If we deliver your replacement bins and see that you have a full set of bins, you will not receive a new bin. Only one 140-litre rubbish bin (grey lidded bin) is allowed per household.
If you do not want a bin
If you do not want a bin, you can take your rubbish and recycling to Barrowell Green Recycling Centre. We only collect rubbish or recycling from bins supplied by us.
Request a larger rubbish bin
If you produce a lot of waste, you might be able to get a larger bin.
You can apply for a larger rubbish bin if:
- there are 5 or more permanent residents in your house
- you have at least 2 children in nappies
- you produce large amounts of medical or incontinence waste
Once you have registered an interest in a larger rubbish bin, we will contact you to complete a questionnaire.
Delivering your larger rubbish bin
If you are eligible for a larger rubbish bin based on your response to our questionnaire, we will arrange the delivery of your larger bin.
Your smaller bin will be swapped for a larger bin within 4 weeks. We will remove the smaller bin after collection when empty and replace with a larger bin. The exchange may not happen at the same time, but the replacement bin will be delivered on the same day.
