Record low for permanent exclusions
We are incredibly proud to showcase an historic achievement for Enfield’s permanent exclusions which are at an all-time low. We are now one of the lowest boroughs locally and nationally for permanent exclusions. This means countless young people have remained in education and benefitted from a stable learning environment. They now have the opportunity to thrive. Our combined efforts have contributed to this huge piece of work. We are committed to continuing this vital work.
Working together is success
SBSS and NEXUS work intensely with schools, families, and children to build a support system which help students reach their full potential.
Our services
- School support: We provide schools with advice, training, behaviour panels and other interventions to assist with managing challenging behaviour
- Outreach in-school mentoring: We offer one-on-one and group support to students at risk of exclusion. Our mentors build trust, identify underlying issues, and guide students towards positive changes.
- Transition team: We provide one-on-one and group support to help Year 6 and 7 students successfully transition to secondary school
- Alternative Provision: For students who require additional support outside of mainstream school, we assist in finding suitable placements and support their wellbeing
- Directed Move support: We enable smooth transitions for students moving from one secondary school to another, helping to achieve a fresh start
- Nexus: We connect the community to improve Enfield. Our partners collaborate across various sectors to help young people.

Parent of student at Southgate School
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all the support you and the school have given to C over the past year. The additional external 1-2-1 mentoring provided by your mentor has been incredibly helpful to C. They have supported him immensely, he has been a very positive influence and has reassured C with many issues in particular where he had low self-esteem and insecurities.

They have also been able to encourage C to make positive decisions about his behaviour and has also guided Christian with regards to his career after school, to which he has now been offered a conditional offer at St Albans college to study sport. For this we are very grateful. I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you and hope that C can get through the toughest part yet of the GCSE exams. C has the upmost respect for you all and always speaks very highly of you all. Please pass on my thanks to your mentor.
Head of Community Safety
The Secondary School Behaviour Support Service are key partners in our multi agency approach to preventing and reducing violence. They provide invaluable support to those students who are dealing with the challenges either at home or in the community and which impacts on how they engage in school. School remains the safest place for so many of these students and without the 1-2-1 support offered by SSBS their risks and vulnerabilities would increased either through short term or permanent exclusion.

Nexus is a cornerstone of our collaborative approach to preventing young people being affected by crime before and at the end of each school day. The collaboration between Nexus leads, the Enfield Youth Service, Youth Justice, Yvonne Lawson Foundation, Police and other partners has provided a unique opportunity to develop and deliver a multi-dimensional programme aimed at preventing crime such a robberies or violent conflict on school aged children. This Team Around the School Programme is being piloted in a number of key schools across the borough in location most affected by robberies and violence, particularly between the time period of 3pm and 5pm, and is already showing early signs of a positive impact.
