Challenge yourself and become a Volunteer Mentor!

Date: 09 May 2015 - 23 May 2015

Every week

Location: Finsbury Park

Time: 10:00 - 16:00

Cost: Free

Become a Volunteer Mentor and Inspire a child to have a brighter future!

Chance UK is an award winning children’s charity. We work with primary school children with behavioural difficulties that indicate an increased risk of future involvement in anti-social or criminal activity. We need positive people from the local community to inspire a child for a few hours once a week. As well as giving something back to the community, volunteering as a mentor with us is a great opportunity to gain some fantastic experience working one-to-one with a child with challenging behaviour. Each child is carefully paired with a mentor, and the two meet weekly for a year, for fun outings and problem-free time. During sessions, the mentor helps the child develop the confidence and personal and social skills which will help them deal with difficulties and build a brighter future. We provide full training and support throughout the mentoring process and the skills you will develop as a mentor are invaluable. In order for us to be able to work with more children, who are desperately in need of our service, we need more people from the community to volunteer a few hours of their time each week. Please let me know how we can best work together to offer this amazing opportunity to parents or anyone else associated with your organisation who may be interested in becoming a volunteer mentor. Our next round of training starts on 9th May 2015. To find out more please contact us on 020 7281 5858 or visit www.chanceuk.com/become-a-mentor/

Plant Sale in aid of the Nightingale Cancer Support Centre

Date: 23 May 2015

Location: 78 Tenniswood Road, Enfield, Middlesex, EN1 3HE

Time: 10:00 - 17:00

Cost: £0.00

Supporters of the Nightingale Cancer Support Centre, will once again be transforming their driveways into a garden nursery again for the 8th year running to raise money for the charity

There will be a vast variety on sale from garden plants to vegetables. All at a very reasonable price. Carol Dekan said - I like to support The Nightingale as it is a local charity that provides amazing support and care not just for cancer patients but also family members and carers too, this awful illness effects so many people. The Nightingale receives no government funding and relies on the generosity of the local community, and we hope that the little bit we raise helps. We all know of people, family/friends, that are affected by cancer and without the likes of the Nightingale where would these people be. The NHS are not able to offer that “extra mile” that families need at such difficult times. My friends and I all enjoy our gardening and in doing the plant sale we get even more satisfaction from doing something we enjoy and the challenge of raising as many funds as we can for such a worthwhile charity. Lesa Barker fundraising manager for The Nightingale says – Having dedicated and loyal supporters like Pauline and Carol make my job so much easier, it is so hard for us as a local charity to raise the amount of funds we need to be able to provide all of our services for free, to people effected by cancer. But with people like this organising events for us and utilising their own hobbies it helps us to keep on growing from strength to strength. Everyone has a hobbie or interest that could be used as fundraising scheme, and we urge as many people as possible to be inspired by these ladies and do it yourself, weather it be a 'Bake off', afternoon tea party, sponsored natta...... anything will go! Pop along and get your plants ready for the summer.
