Pregnancy

Common questions

How will I know if I am pregnant?

If you have unprotected sex (without contraception) you can become pregnant - even if it is the first time. If it is within 5 days since you had unprotected sex you may be able to take emergency contraception but the sooner the better!

Pregnancy symptoms vary from woman to woman. The first early pregnancy symptoms are usually morning sickness and a missed period. Some women might not feel any different from normal.

Early pregnancy symptoms include:

  • Missed period
  • Tender breasts
  • Nausea
  • Tiredness
  • Frequent need to wee
  • Headaches
  • Spotting
  • Light headed
  • Constipation
  • Heartburn

To be sure - you need to take a pregnancy test!

When is the best time to take a pregnancy test?

The most accurate way to test for pregnancy is to wait until after your period is due (so if your period was due Friday 7th you could take the test from the Saturday 8th). But if you are confused or unsure you will need to visit one of the following: 4YP clinic, sexual health clinic, your doctor or contact the SHOUT 4YP nurses:

SHOUT 4YP nurse Angela: 07943 510 643

SHOUT 4YP nurse Colette: 07943 510 641

SHOUT 4YP nurse Evelyn: 07484 543 904

Or visit them at their clinic.
