Special Education Needs and Disability

The government is providing children and young people with special educational needs and\or disability (SEND) with more choice and control about their futures. Visit the government's SEND reform web page to find out more.

One of the aims of the reforms is to help young people think about moving into adulthood.  This includes going to college, taking up an apprenticeship, keeping safe and healthy and living independently.  There are a number of Moving On events to help young people with these choices - see the calendar of events here

Support from Enfield Council

The Council’s page for special educational needs and disability, known as the Local Offer, can be found at www.enfield.gov.uk/SEND

We are currently preparing a “young person friendly” version of this information, and are keen to hear your views and ideas about how to make this happen.  Please email your ideas to cheviots@enfield.gov.uk

The Council’s SEN Team will be converting all existing Statements of Special Educational Need or Learning Difficulties Assessments (LDA) to the new Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) sometime between now and March 2018. The Council is currently working with young people in Year 6 and Year 11 to convert their Statements to EHCPs, and will also prioritise young people who are Looked After.

All young people will be invited to participate in the transfer of their Statement/LDA to EHCP so that their views and aspirations can be included in the EHCP.  To help young people prepare for this, Enfield Council will be running some fun workshops for young people - details of which can be found on the Local Offer.  You will also have the choice to be supported by a Careers Adviser or an Independent Supporter

Support from others

The Council for Disabled Children in partnership with the Department for Education has produced a number of fact sheets, films and posters to help young people understand the changes that may affect them.
