Tree Services

The local authority is responsible for the efficient management of trees in their ownership within urban and rural environments. This includes the application of tree preservation orders and the protection of other trees on council owned land.

The London Tree Survey conducted in 1993 identified 230,000 trees in the London Borough of Enfield. 80,000 of these trees are in public ownership of which 20,000 are street trees. Enfield Council values its remarkable heritage of trees. Our aim is to treasure them and promote/extend the future use of trees to complement the built environment. Our current tree stock consists of a variation of species including large forest type trees such as London Plane, Lime and Maple and smaller ornamental tress such as Cherry, Apple and Plum.

Tree Preservation Orders (TPO’s)

A Tree Preservation Order is an order by the council, as Local Planning authority which in general makes it an offence to cut down, top, lop, uproot, wilfully damage or wilfully destroy a tree without the planning authority’s permission. Trees that are exempt from TPO’s are those that are dead, dying, diseased or dangerous and fruit trees for the commercial production of fruit. The Planning Department is responsible for the Public Register of Tree Preservation Orders and for Protected trees including processing applications for tree works. Trees in Conservation Area

Trees in parks

The council are responsible for the management and maintenance of all trees in council owned allotments, cemeteries parks and open spaces. Report a tree problem in a park. Or Report trees overhanging private land or the public highway.

Highway trees

Enfield council has over 20,000 street trees. Maintenance of street trees is on a cyclical programme depending on the type and location of the tree. Information about the maintenance of street trees.

All Enfield Schools, Community, Voluntary Aided (Church Schools) and Foundation Schools are responsible for managing and maintaining trees on the School site. To report a problem with a tree which is on a school site please contact the school directly.
