Tree Preservation Orders (TPO’s)
A Tree Preservation Order is an order by the council, as Local Planning authority which in general makes it an offence to cut down, top, lop, uproot, wilfully damage or wilfully destroy a tree without the planning authority’s permission. Trees that are exempt from TPO’s are those that are dead, dying, diseased or dangerous and fruit trees for the commercial production of fruit. The Planning Department is responsible for the Public Register of Tree Preservation Orders and for Protected trees including processing applications for tree works.
