Children at Galliard Primary School in Edmonton N9, raised over £1850 for the Haiti appeal. At a recent school council meeting children said that they wanted to do something positive for the appeal.

They composed a song writing the words and music and they have recorded it to sell as a CD to raise even more money.

The words are:

We'll make this a good day, Haiti
We'll make this a good day, Haiti
We will make you smile,
In a Galliard style,
Helping you do that extra mile
We'll make this a good day, Haiti

Headteacher, Penny Sullivan, said, "Our children were determined to go ahead with this and decided on a number of activities that would swell the funds. They have done remarkably well."

The children made biscuits and popcorn, scoobie-doos and greeting cards for sale. Wearing red and blue, the colours of the Haiti flag, instead of their uniform, they sold stickers of the flag to parents and visitors to the school.

They organised a disco and a 'bring & buy' sale providing all the books themselves.

Cllr Glynis Vince, cabinet member for education, children's services and youth, said, "Yet again children are showing how much they care about people in far away places. This is a wonderful demonstration of their compassion and generosity."
