Enfield Social Services Shortlisted for LGC Awards
Published Thursday 14th January 10
Enfield Council has been shortlisted, along with five other council’s, for the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Award. The category it has been highlighted for is ‘Personalisation and Choice’.
The winner will be announced on the 24th March 2010.
Enfield Council has already been awarded four stars last year, and the department of Health and Adult Social Care was awarded Beacon Status in recognition of its exceptional work to Support Independent Living for Disabled Adults.
The department has also made significant contributions to the development and delivery of services that increase independence, choice and control for adults with learning difficulties and physical disabilities.
The Council has set up a multi agency Transition Implementation Group to oversee transition arrangements for young people with learning difficulties. The Group has worked hard to develop a 'Moving On' campaign which supports young people with learning difficulties in the transition to adult life.
The Person Centered Planning approach has been recognised through national forums as providing best practice. The innovative review documentation has been adopted by other local authorities and has been shared by learning disability services in the USA and Europe.
The Council is also working to increase the number of people who receive Direct Payments, reduce the number of people who have to enter residential care, and work towards providing homes to increase the amount of people living independently.
Cllr Edward Smith, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Services said "Our Health and Adult Social Care department has done very well, and to have this recognised by being in the final of the LGC Awards is good news.
"Starting with the Beacon Award last March and building on our recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission, we will continue to strive to provide excellent services.
"To win this Award would be an extra acknowledgment of the 84% of our clients who have physical disabilities who tell us they are satisfied with the service they receive from us."
