Enfield residents aged 65 and over, who have not already registered for this service, can now get some extra support when they register with the council’s ‘prevention intervention’ team for a general health and well-being assessment.
From Monday 25th January to Thursday 4th March 2010 the team will be at venues across the borough where residents can register for their assessments.
After assessments all clients are contacted every three months to check their well being, and offered further information on services to help them stay physically and socially active to maintain their quality of life, plus advice on how to remain safe in their homes.
Occupational Therapy Assistants will be conducting the assessments, and will be offering information to residents on improving their well-being, as well as handing out free aids and gadgets to those whose assessments show they need it.
Long-handled reachers, sponges and brushes with dustpans are just a few of the aids that will be available to help prevent falls and keep people safer in their homes. By registering with the 'prevention intervention' team, those that sign up will also be contacted regularly about their well-being, and offered support and information on an ongoing basis.
Cllr Edward Smith, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Services said "More of our residents are reaching their sixties now, and we want to help them enjoy their lives for as long as possible.
"Registering with our 'prevention intervention' team is a good way to get support when it is needed, but also to maintain an independent life style.
"Many people who register with the scheme feedback to us how reassuring it is that they have someone checking on their well-being. It is a wonderful service."
The team will be meeting local residents between 10am and 4pm at the following venues:
Mondays: Morrisons, Southbury Avenue, Enfield, EN1
Tuesdays: Edmonton Green Library, 36-44 South Mall, Edmonton, N9
Wednesdays: Enfield Civic Centre, Silver Street, Enfield, EN1
Thursdays: Southgate Leisure Centre, Winchmore Hill Road, London, N14
