Enfield Council’s enviro chief has reminded residents not to let fireworks off after 11pm except on Guy Fawkes night this week.
Councillor Terry Neville – cabinet member for environment said: “We are not killjoys in Enfield but we are determined to protect residents’ quality of life and safety.
“If anyone is caught fooling around with fireworks, letting them off in the street or after the 11 pm curfew they will receive either an on the spot fine or prosecution.”
A team of Enfield Council and police officers will patrol the borough all week and weekend to protect the public from anti-social behaviour involving fireworks.
The mobile fireworks patrol will enforce the curfew and deal with any outbreaks of anti-social behaviour involving the fireworks.
The curfew is extended to 12 midnight only on Guy Fawkes Nights.
Cllr Neville urged anyone being disturbed by anti-social behaviour involving fireworks to call the Council’s 0208 379 1000 number this year and not the police.
He said: “Unfortunately some residents are still phoning 999 or calling police stations instead of calling the Council directly, it means we are unable to respond quickly and deal with the problem.
“I urge residents to call our 1000 and our firework patrol will respond immediately.”
