Young people get big cash for great ideas
Date and Time of Publication:- 2008-10-22 11:17:22Don’t let £200,000 go begging. The call is out for young people aged between 13 and 19 years, (up to 25 with special needs) to get their project applications in before 5pm on Friday 31st October for a chance of getting the cash to develop their ideas.
Pink Ross, who coordinates the Youth Opportunities Fund Enfield (YOFE), said, “There are just a few days left to apply. This is government money that is here to provide activities for young people that they want to do - not what adults choose for them.”
In the last funding round earlier this year YOFE backed: a talent showcase, residential, short movie, sporting clubs, dance projects, self defence, Duke of Edinburgh awards, camping equipment, musical instruments, flight simulator, Internet access, first aid classes, young parent project, drama classes, sensory garden, and refurbishment of premises used by young people.
YOFE attracts huge interest among young people who present their ideas to a panel of young people who make the final decisions on the awards.
Pink, says, “There is no limit to what you can ask for or reach for! We are looking out for interesting and innovative projects as well as continuing to support some projects that have proven to be a success in their community. “
Cllr Glynis Vince, cabinet member for education, children’s services and youth, said, “I urge young people to come forward with their ideas. YOFE is a chance to develop some wonderful activities that can be enjoyed by many young people so get those applications in fast.”
