The Fantastic Four come to Enfield
Date and Time of Publication:- 2008-10-17 11:37:50Enfield is known for its areas of outstanding beauty, and heritage is at the forefront of this special borough that boasts some stunning architecture and exciting history.

To conserve the unique ‘look’ of the locality Enfield Council wants to add four new conservation areas to the 16 that are already in the borough.
The four new areas, Grange Park, The Meadway, The Crescent and Southgate Circus, have been chosen for their spatial identity, special architectural or historical quality or special townscape features. They were chosen from a longer shortlist of 52 areas.

This new areas were chosen in a really unique new way. In the past conservation areas would be adopted by people suggesting places which may have merit. But these four new areas were selected by way of a thorough study of the entire borough, using a unique ‘marking’ scheme, whereby each area was graded methodically via a ‘Characterisation Study’.
Cllr Terry Neville, Cabinet Member for Environment and Street Scene said “Drawing up these four new Conservation Areas in itself was an extremely interesting experience.
“The company that gave us these plans have not only drawn up clear guidance for any future development in each area, but have shown us clear direction on how we can retain the special character and appearance of each conservation area.
“In addition, the plans have also showed the importance of action being taken to prevent ill-conceived works being carried out to properties in the areas, which would cause detriment to the look of a locality.
"Now we want residents to look at the findings and let us know whether they agree with what we have found. It is incredibly important to know if local people support the preservation of our heritage as passionately as we do."
